About the United Way of Chattahoochee Valley’s EDA grant

The United Way of Chattahoochee Valley was awarded an EDA grant as part of Phase 1. The nonprofit, serving both Alabama and Georgia, was the only finalist and winner in the state of Georgia. Alabama, on the other hand, was a part of two other Phase 1 finalists awards, including the one for the Gulf Coast region and Birmingham area.

The United Way of Chattahoochee Valley’s application was selected by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration out of more than 500 applicants.

In the application, the agency stated funds awarded would be used to help prepare “residents for jobs in advanced manufacturing and construction and to combat barriers to employment through targeted investments in childcare and job readiness.”

More about the Recompete Pilot Program

Since United Way of Chattahoochee Valley was awarded an EDA grant, the agency is now eligible to apply for Phase 2. In the end, the goal is to support the CHIPS4Chips initiative. This program will focus on developments to attract semiconductor manufacturing and the associated supply chain to the Chattahoochee Valley.

What’s more, The United Way of Chattahoochee Valley was also one of 24 organizations selected for a Strategy Development Grant. Thus, the agency won a $500,000 Strategy Development Grant to help with local community coordination and planning activities to advance the goal of workforce development.
