What we know
At the moment, not many details have been released in regards to the new SONIC® Drive-In® in Ladonia, an area of Phenix City in Russell County.
What we do know is it’s one of two businesses recently announced as the newest tenants in the Eighty West shopping center. Eighty West is just off U.S Highway 80, near the U.S. Highway 280 intersection.
The center, which is across from the Walmart Neighborhood Market, continues to be a work-in-progress. Currently, a Dollar Tree, Popeyes and Taco Bell are up and running in the shopping center.
Along with the new SONIC® Drive-In® in Ladonia, the state’s first Snappy Express Wash will open. The only other Snappy Express Wash is in Jacksonville, Fla.
This will be SONIC’s second location in Russell County. Both Sonic Drive-In and Snappy Express Wash will be located on Compromise Court in Phenix City.
Site preparation is now underway for both upcoming businesses.

Did you know SONIC® was originally known as Top Hat Drive-In? The first location opened in Shawnee, Okla., in 1953. The idea was to change the way the food was ordered.
They used curbside speakers that let customers place their orders without getting out of their cars. This led to the slogan, “Service at the Speed of Sound.”
Eventually, the slogan was summed up in one word—SONIC. By 1959, the name was officially changed, and it’s been full-speed ahead ever since!
Today, there are more than 3,500 locations across the country—which will soon include Ladonia’s new location.
Summary
